Hello. I am Dr. Dongkyu Lee, an orthopedic specialist. So many people suffer from shoulder calcific tendinitis. Many patients come to our clinic from overseas because getting treatment abroad is extremely difficult. They say it takes over 2 months just to see an orthopedic specialist, conventional treatments do not provide improvement, and the cost of treatment is prohibitively expensive. The patient I am introducing today came from the United Kingdom. She was in terrible pain from shoulder calcific tendinitis, but in the UK, it takes over 2 months to see an orthopedic specialist, and no amount of medication was helping. She told me that just to see a specialist in the UK, the consultation fee alone is 600 pounds (approximately 1 million Korean won, or about $750). In Korea, it costs less than 10,000 won (about $7)... I was reminded once again of the enormous difference in medical costs. Let us take a look at the condition of this patient who came from the UK.

On X-ray, a very large calcification is visible within the red circle. With a calcification this large, the pain must have been severe... I told her she must have endured a great deal traveling all the way from the UK.

Ultrasound confirmed the size and characteristics. An enormous calcification measuring 2.27 x 3.33 cm was observed, appearing to be a paste-like consistency based on its full shape being visible. Since she needed to return to the UK in a few days and wanted rapid treatment, calcific deposit aspiration was performed to remove the calcification non-surgically. In the video, you can see the crushed calcification being aspirated into the inserted syringe. The initially clear syringe gradually becomes cloudy as it fills with crushed calcification. The calcification is crushed using the specially manufactured guide and drill, then aspirated using saline. This process is repeated multiple times.

Looking at the post-procedure syringe photo, the white material that has settled to the bottom is the aspirated calcification. An enormous amount was removed.

On the post-procedure X-ray, you can see that the calcification within the blue circle has been almost completely removed.

Comparing the before and after images, the large calcification visible before the procedure has been nearly completely absorbed. The patient was extremely satisfied that both the calcification and pain were resolved. She visited once more before returning to the UK and said she was pain-free and feeling great. I recommended additional shockwave therapy for any residual calcification. Quite a few patients find our clinic through my blog from overseas, and it is a proud feeling.
