Shoulder Calcific Tendinitis: Non-Surgical Treatment, NewPIMS, Calcium Crushing and Aspiration

Hello. I'm Dr. Dongkyu Lee, an orthopedic specialist. I'll show you a case of a patient who suffered from shoulder calcific tendinitis for 3 years. The patient had only been receiving pain injections at a local clinic when it hurt. But the pain would only temporarily improve after the injection, with constant ongoing pain making life very difficult. The patient was probably too busy with work to seek further treatment... Because the pain had persisted for so long, X-ray and MRI examinations were performed.

X-ray shows a calcium deposit outlined by the blue dotted line above the humerus. X-ray confirms the diagnosis of shoulder calcific tendinitis.

MRI shows an approximately 2cm calcium deposit within the supraspinatus, with no other disease or injury in other areas.

Since tests showed only calcific tendinitis with no other pathology, NewPIMS treatment (calcium crushing and aspiration) was performed.

The white sediment inside the syringe is the calcium that was crushed and aspirated from the calcific tendinitis.

Post-procedure X-ray confirms the calcium visible before treatment is nearly completely absorbed.

Shoulder calcific tendinitis goes through formative, resting, and resorptive phases as the calcium is absorbed. However, depending on size and location, the disease can persist for a very long time — even decades. The bigger problem is that shoulder calcific tendinitis causes extremely severe pain, causing tremendous suffering for patients. This patient wanted to get treated but was told surgery was the only option. Because of work, the patient couldn't make the decision. But if you're reading this, you now know that shoulder calcific tendinitis can be treated non-surgically. This patient was very satisfied after receiving NewPIMS treatment (calcium crushing and aspiration), freed from pain, and said the simple procedure didn't interfere with work at all. I hope patients suffering from calcific tendinitis no longer need to suffer due to time constraints or fear of surgery.
