Hello. I'm Dr. Dongkyu Lee, an orthopedic specialist. Today, I'll show you another NewPIMS treatment (calcium crushing and aspiration) case for shoulder calcific tendinitis. A 49-year-old female patient had been suffering from shoulder pain for years, receiving injections, shockwave therapy, and manual therapy. While the range of motion improved somewhat after treatment for calcific tendinitis at another hospital, shoulder pain persisted, which is why she came to our clinic.


On X-ray, calcific tendinitis is visible in the supraspinatus area within the yellow circle, with the calcium deposit outlined by the red dotted line.
After nearly a year of treatment at another hospital without any reduction in calcium size, surgery was recommended. However, surgery wasn't feasible for the patient, so she came to us seeking non-surgical treatment. Ultrasound and MRI examinations were performed to evaluate the tendon condition.


On the left MRI image, the dark area within the red circle inside the supraspinatus is the calcium. On the right ultrasound image, the area outlined by the red dotted line is the calcium within the supraspinatus. No other abnormal findings were present.

Shoulder calcific tendinitis can be fully treated without surgery using NewPIMS treatment (calcium crushing and aspiration). The patient experienced nearly complete pain relief immediately after the procedure and was very satisfied. Depending on the patient's condition and degree of inflammation, some pain may persist for up to one week after the procedure, but on average, pain resolves notably within 1-2 days.
